Just Enough Rope...

Noose: A Web/Database interface tool for Unix developed by Depot District Computing, Inc.

Noose was originally written to Port LassoTM (1.xx) applications to Unix/SQL. The Oregon Public Education Network Clearinghouse's use of Noose (as an applications framework) and the complexity of projected OPEN work extends well beyond the capabilities of its original design. (you can only hang so many ornaments on a Christmas tree), In addition Blueworld and Claris (having liscensed Lasso's technology) have significantly altered their languages (CDML/LDML) in ways which made rewriting necessary.

Digithink stopped support for noose in July of 98. OPEN has funded roughly 40% a clean rewrite called Necklace which they will be porting their content to by the end of this school year. I am finishing this rewrite at present and hope to have it stabilized by the end of this month.

The documentation for noose was revised in July to reflect the developments done in early 88 while I was working for OPEN. Unfortunately No http version of this has been made available. This documentation would not reflect the work done by david@open.k12.or.us to keep the product running while waiting for the rewrite to stabilize.

Noose was developed by Depot District Computing under contract with Linn-Benton-Lynn-Educational Services District for the Oregon Public Education Network Clearinghouse. Since public moneys were used in its development it has been made made available to all under the GNU General Public Licence. Noose can be found and down loaded at ftp://ftp.digithink.com/pub/noose/ The documentation for noose is avaliable online at http://www.digithink.com/noose/docs/

I will be making Necklace avaliable to k12 at an affordable (if not gratis) rate once it stabilizes.
